What is a non-invasive prenatal paternity test ?
A non-invasive paternity test uses a blood sample from the mother and a saliva sample from the potential father/s. The samples are tested by comparing the cell-free foetal DNA (cfDNA) in the mother’s blood sample with the potential father’s DNA.
Is a non-invasive prenatal paternity test safe for my baby?
Yes, it is completely safe. As the name suggests the process is non-invasive, meaning it doesn’t require any procedures that intrude on the baby’s environment.
This is different to an invasive procedure such as amniocentesis, which collects amniotic fluid via a long needle. A non-invasive prenatal paternity test is the only 100% safe way to determine paternity before the baby is born.
Is the test accurate?
Yes. If the samples are collected correctly, the information provided on the consent form is correct and there is sufficient foetal DNA then test accuracy is greater than 99.9%.
How quickly will I get my results?
We analyse your samples in our own laboratory, so you will get your results faster than most providers. From receipt of all samples and correct documentation, we typically provide a result within seven working days.

How do I provide the samples?
It’s up to you.
Most people prefer the convenience of a sample collection at home. A member of our team will visit at a time that suits you, take your sample and help you fill in the accompanying documentation. Alternatively, we can take your sample at our Deeside walk-in centre if that is more convenient for you.
You can arrange your own sample collection if you prefer. It must be done in a recognised clinical setting. This ensures the samples are taken correctly and confirms the identity of all participants providing the samples. A recognised clinical setting can include a Community Health Centre, GP, Hospital or Private Clinic, although you will need to check the availability of these services near you.
In either case a suitably qualified person will oversee the collection of a blood sample from the mother and a saliva sample from the potential father.
How does the test work?
Once a sample has been collected from the mother and the potential father, they are analysed in our own UK based laboratory.
The analysis compares the cell-free foetal DNA (cfDNA) in the mother’s blood with the DNA of the potential father.
What does the result mean?
After the samples have been analysed, you will receive a report that will state the potential father tested either is, or is not, the biological father with greater than 99.9% accuracy.
In a very small number of cases there may be insufficient foetal DNA in the mother’s blood sample to be able to provide a conclusive result.
More often than not, this will be due to the gestation period. If this is the case, we would recommend taking another test at a later stage in the pregnancy.

Can I order on behalf of someone else?
Yes, you can, but we will need signed consent from every participant taking the test. If you are using our online ordering, you will need to give the mother’s name and address in Section 1 and the cardholder’s name and address at checkout.
You should also be aware that irrespective of who orders or pays for the test, the result will only be sent to the email addresses provided on the signed Consent Form.
How do I order?

What is the optional gender reveal report and how do I claim it?
