Considering a DNA paternity test is a big decision, but the thought of going to a local clinic can often feel daunting. Fortunately, modern DNA testing makes the process straightforward and private – whether you need answers for personal peace of mind or for legal purposes. If you’re asking “where can I get a paternity test?” NorthGene™ is here to simplify the process – offering testing designed to fit around your circumstances, whether you’re all living together, based at different addresses or even in different countries.
Can I do a paternity test at home?
Yes – a paternity test can be completed entirely from home.
For many families, a peace of mind paternity test offers a simple and discreet way to get answers privately. Our DNA testing kit is sent directly to your chosen address in pain, discreet packaging, and the samples can be collected privately at a time and place that suits you.
The process uses simple buccal (cheek) swabs that can be collected in just a few minutes and returned to our laboratory using the packaging provided. The process is designed to be straightforward, without feeling clinical or complicated.
Many people prefer at home paternity testing because it offers:
- Greater privacy
- Flexible collection times
- No clinic appointments
- Simple sample collection
- Easy-to-follow instructions
- Discreet packaging
What if we don’t live in the same household?
It’s very common for participants to live at different addresses, and this is not a problem for testing. If one or more participants live elsewhere, we can send separate DNA collection kits to each address involved. This is particularly helpful in situations involving:
- Separated or divorced parents
- Family members living abroad
- Adult children living independently
- Participants who would prefer additional privacy during the testing process
When placing your order, simply let us know how many participants are at each address so we can send the correct number of swabs for sample collection.
We can also facilitate international shipping for participants located overseas.
Legal paternity testing
If you require a paternity test for legal purposes, the sample collection process must follow a strict chain of custody procedure.
In the UK:
Legal DNA samples can still be collected conveniently from your home or another location of your choice. However, the collection process must be carried out by one of our independent third-party sample collectors. These collectors are fully trained in strict chain of custody procedures, including verifying the identity of all participants and ensuring that no tampering can occur. Alternatively, sample collections can be conducted by your GP.
For international participants:
We can arrange for the DNA test kit to be sent to a doctor or approved professional in the participant’s country for sample collection. Please provide the doctor’s name, address, email address, and telephone number below so that we can courier the collection kit directly to them. We also have our own international network of sample collectors who can facilitate the process.
Please note that the doctor or clinic may charge a separate fee for carrying out the sample collection(s). If you are unable to locate a suitable doctor or clinic, please contact our Customer Services team, as we may be able to assist.
This process ensures that the results meet legal standards while keeping the procedure as straightforward as possible for everyone involved.
NorthGene™ is a Ministry of Justice approved, UKAS accredited and Home Office approved laboratory. This means all procedures are carried out in line with the highest standards, and results are legally admissible.
